ASU engineering admission requirements vary by major

Admission requirements for many engineering majors are higher than ASU’s general admission standards.

Degrees that require more than minimum ASU requirements

The following degrees have admission criteria which are more than the ASU minimum. The criteria for first-year students seeking these degrees have two requirements:

Requirement 1

*ABOR GPA is a calculation of the GPA you earned in only the 16 high school course competencies required for admission to ASU.

Requirement 2
Math and science course competencies
You completed all high school math and science course competencies
You have incomplete high school math or science course competencies

You may apply for admission to one of the following programs if you are missing only one required course competency in math or science.

Missing required high school course competencies in both math and science is not acceptable.

In addition, there are Fulton Schools degree programs which require only the minimum ASU admission requirements. See below.

More than minimum ASU requirements

Transfer admission requirements for the following ASU Engineering degree programs require more than the ASU minimum requirements:

  1. Minimum transfer GPA of 3.00 for less than 24 transfer hours, and
  2. You have completed all of the required high school math and science course competencies, and
  3. One of the following:
    1. Minimum 1210 SAT combined evidence-based reading and writing plus math score (or 1140 if taken prior to March 5, 2016) or minimum 24 ACT combined score; or
    2. 3.00 minimum ABOR GPA*; or
    3. Class ranking in top 25 percent of high school class.

    *ABOR GPA is a calculation of the GPA you earned in only the 16 high school course competencies required for admission to ASU.

    Minimum ASU requirements

    Transfer admission requirements for the following ASU Engineering degree programs require the ASU minimum requirements. Note the GPA requirement varies by program.

    Students who have completed 24 or more transferable college credits post-high school may satisfy admission requirements by meeting the Primary Criteria OR the Secondary Criteria, not both.

    Do all degree programs have Primary Criteria and Secondary Criteria?

    No. Some degree programs have only one set of criteria or require the minimum ASU admission requirements.

    2. Minimum GPA of 2.75 in critical courses:

      • MAE 213
      • MAE 241 (Mechanical) or MAE 242 (Aerospace)
